Our Programmes in action- a brief overview
Big Aims 50

There is much attention on younger age groups regarding unemployment, particularly in the current times. However, in an age where people are expected to live much longer, & retire much later, older age groups may feel left out of the equation regarding employment help & opportunity. This is where we at Work in Action come into the picture. We offer an employment programme specifically for those in their 50’s & above who may have become unemployed for a variety of reasons. We recognise that in an age where people are healthier & living longer that older age groups still have much to offer the world of employment, particularly regarding experience and know how. But we also recognise that they may require upskilling. This is why we want to push the barriers back as far as possible and convince employers (and older clients themselves) that such service users still have a huge part to play in shaping the future of the world of work for many years to come.
Our programme aims to take an holistic approach to rebuilding the confidence of service users on this project. The client will have the opportunity to retrain where necessary, have access to work placements/interviews/apprenticeships, & other training (such as Social media skills) as required.
Action-to-Work

This is our flagship programme as it spans the largest cohort of service users, namely those who are 18 and above, who have been unemployed for 6 months or more. Here, as with all our programmes, we will assess current levels of confidence, skills and training, and through a series of workshops , 1-2-1’s and other opportunities, such as work placements and work trials with brand name employers (in both the voluntary and commercial sector), we aim to move these service users into full & permanent employment with ongoing support provided throughout their journey.
 HOMELESS-TO-WORK

This programme supports individuals on their journey from homelessness into sustained employment and independent living. So if you have previously been homeless (or are at risk of homelessness) we will work with your current accommodation provider and give you the necessary 'next step' tools to gain sustained employment.
Our programme aims to rebuild confidence, self-esteem & delve into any interests you may have (e.g. music, art, sport, hospitality, teaching, mentoring, catering, construction) which may help facilitate this journey.
Once our service users are settled into the project, built up the necessary confidence levels with us and are ready to take the next step, we can offer a range of opportunities & learning, including work experience, apprenticeships, & other opportunities that will further empower the individual to move forward in their journey towards full employment & independent living.
START-UP FOR BUSINESS

• This project aims to work with anyone (over the age of 18) who wants to learn the fundamentals of starting up a new business. It will:
• Encourage anyone who has a great idea but who may lack the necessary basic knowledge to be entrepreneurial.
•Looks at the basic legal structures of a business, how to register your company, & some of the basic policy documents needed in order to get you up and running
• Provide practical entrepreneurial advice in order to enhance individual employability
• Provide ongoing support & guidance to our future business owners.
 THE FAMILIES ESTATES PROJECT

Aims:
•Helping those living within the ‘family unit’ on council estates who have complex & challenging issues.
•Looking at elements of dysfunctionality within the current family dynamic (whether this be domestic violence, criminal behaviour, anti-social behaviour, substance abuse, or mental health) to see if we can influence some of these things individuals are going through in a positive way, whilst looking at ways to make members within the unit more employable.
•Taking an holistic approach we aim to involve as many people within the family unit as possible when looking to deal with the issues & barriers faced.
•Can be delivered in the following boroughs: Newham, Tower Hamlets, Barking & Dagenham, and Waltham Forest.
COMMUNITIES TO WORK
COMMUNITIES TO WORK

•Our Communities to Work programme is an exciting new voluntary programme catering to a wide base of services users.
•Whether you are an ESOL student looking to use your newly acquired English skills to apply for employment, a single parent wanting to enter or re-enter the job market again, an LLDD service user wanting to boost your employability opportunities, or are a 25+ service user, perhaps with some complex needs, in that 'awkward' or 'in between' age category where you may be just outside the government main target group of 16-24, but clearly not old enough to qualify for the government's other main focus, the 50 plus age range.
•The programme is specifically aimed at capturing groups who have a particular set of challenging employment barriers unique to their own situation.
•For example, ESOL service users who not only need to adapt to a new language and often a new environment, but also need to acquire employability skills in order to start the process of looking for work.
•Or single parents, who have the obvious barriers around childcare, may need flexibility around the demands of employment, & may also lack confidence after a period out of work.

•We offer 1-2-1 CV building, confidence building, interview techniques, and job search, all delivered in the comfortable and relaxed surroundings of your local community centre, library, or office.

Why provide this service for currently employed people?
We have highlighted currently employed individuals who are looking to change jobs or roles simply because they are often overlooked in the mellay of employment support opportunities available, precisely because they are employed.
